Credible carbon accounting depends on three things holding together at once: corporate reporting that reflects real-world business operations, policy and regulation that companies can actually comply with, and independent research rigorous enough that markets and regulators can trust the numbers underneath it. Right now, those three legs are being built largely in parallel. Corporate coalitions are working to align business practice with policy design. Governments are advancing disclosure rules that vary widely across jurisdictions. Academic and technical researchers are developing the measurement methodologies meant to anchor both. When any one leg moves without the others, the result is standards companies cannot implement, regulations markets cannot trust, or science that never reaches the practitioners who need it. This session brings together leaders from industry, policy, and academic research to examine what real alignment between business, policy, and science actually requires, where current approaches to carbon accounting are succeeding or falling short, and what it will take to build a system durable enough to support the scale of investment now being staked on it.
