Alex Saer is CEO of Cercarbono, an international carbon crediting program, where he leads the organization’s global strategy and engagement with carbon markets, policymakers, and international initiatives focused on strengthening market integrity.
His career spans both the policy and implementation sides of carbon markets. Prior to joining Cercarbono, Alex served as Director of Climate Change and Risk Management at Colombia’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, where he led the development and implementation of national climate policy and helped advance the country’s regulatory agenda for carbon markets. During his tenure, he also contributed to the development of Colombia’s Climate Action Law and National Carbon Neutrality Strategy and represented Colombia in international climate negotiations, including COP26.
With more than 20 years of experience across the public and private sectors, Alex has worked at the intersection of climate policy, sustainability, and market-based environmental solutions. He is a Fulbright Scholar and holds an M.S. in Sustainable Development from the University of Maryland, as well as degrees in Industrial Engineering and Political Science from Universidad de los Andes.
