Mauricio Gomez Amin

Mauricio Gómez Amín is a Colombian lawyer and public official with more than two
decades of experience across local, regional, national, and international institutions. Born
in Barranquilla in 1982, he has built his career around consensus-building, institutional
dialogue, regional development, and the advancement of economic and social
opportunities, with particular knowledge of Colombia’s Caribbean region.
Before his appointment as Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr. Gómez
served as a Senator of the Republic, Member of the House of Representatives, Member of
the Andean Parliament, Barranquilla City Councilor, and Local Administrative
Representative. He has also held senior leadership positions in legislative committees
responsible for economic affairs, territorial planning, public credit, budget, and fiscal
policy.
His legislative record includes initiatives supporting business recovery, employment
protection, youth entrepreneurship, education, infrastructure, public services,
environmental conservation, and sustainable regional development. Notably, he promoted
corporate insolvency legislation designed to facilitate business continuity, preserve jobs,
and prevent otherwise viable companies from closing. He also led oversight initiatives
concerning energy costs, transportation infrastructure, national budget execution, public
security, and public-service delivery.
Mr. Gómez has participated in international forums on sustainable development, energy
policy, economic cooperation, environmental protection, innovation, and institutional
reform. His international experience includes engagement with the Euro-Latin American
Parliamentary Assembly, the COP21 GLOBE Legislators Summit in Paris, and
interparliamentary policy forums in Washington, D.C.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Management from Universidad de los Andes, a
Specialization in Public Law from Universidad del Norte, and a law degree from the same
institution. He has also completed advanced studies in political management and
governance through The George Washington University, CAF—Development Bank of Latin
America and the Caribbean—and Universidad del Rosario.
As Minister, Mr. Gómez brings extensive political and institutional experience, a strong
capacity for engagement with public- and private-sector stakeholders, and a commitment
to strengthening Colombia’s productive sectors, promoting regional development, and
expanding the country’s international economic engagement.
