Welcome Remarks: U.N. Secretary General António Guterres | Mainstage

Speakers:
António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations

From the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary-General António Guterres offered a message of hope amidst competing crises. The climate crisis and COVID-19 have set progress back but Guterres expressed his support for the Paris accord, Sustainable Development Goals, and public-private partnerships. These partnerships, he continued, have enormous potential to provide the vision necessary to solve problems.

Working collaboratively mirrors the goals of the United Nations itself, Guterres said. It will take elevating voices from all sectors to move from ideas to action, empower new leaders, and push for a more just, equitable, and sustainable future.

Nothing is more important than for us to come together in these unprecedented times.

António Guterres

Key takeaways & next steps:

  • It remains possible and necessary for the world to work together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and poverty. Voices from all sectors should be elevated.
