Today, Ghana is the world’s second largest producer of cocoa. Created by The Hershey Company, World Cocoa Foundation, Ghana Cocoa Board, World Education, and Dream Oval, CocoaLink is a public-private partnership that uses mobile technology to improve the livelihoods of African farmers in the cocoa sector.

In a few short years, CocoaLink has made an immense positive impact across West Africa. One study shows farmers in CocoaLink communities reporting increased yields of over 45 percent over the course of three years. Thanks to Ghana’s burgeoning mobile technology network, CocoaLink leverages text messages to inform farmers about best practices, farm safety, child labor, health, and crop disease prevention. In turn, cocoa farmers produce better harvests, boost household incomes, and create opportunities for their communities.
