Greetings from Sydney

Andrew Liveris shares his thoughts on the 2020 Concordia Annual Summit and more.

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Sydney. We’re certainly moving through a period of dynamic change—one that we’ll look back on in 100 years’ time as marking the arrival of a different world order. With this in mind, I wanted to write to you to stress the urgent need for an organization like Concordia, and to encourage you to engage.

Against today’s unprecedented backdrop, collaboration between business, government, and civil society is imperative, and Concordia is the leading organization working to make this collaboration happen. By merging the values of sectors and industries, Concordia is creating pathways for access, progress, and opportunity. As a Leadership Council Member, I wholeheartedly endorse both its approach and impact. The 10th Annual Summit is taking place digitally from September 21-25, with the 10th Anniversary Celebration hosted on September 24. Crucially, this reception will mark the launch of the Concordia Action Alliance, a body designed to expedite the process by which Concordia facilitates partnerships and information sharing to address this pandemic. Concordia is responding quickly and strategically, but private sector participation is critical: businesses must do everything in their power to mitigate the financial impact. I urge you to lend your insight and help shape the future we all want to see.

In my 42 years with Dow, my greatest takeaway was the transformation sparked by combining science and technology. Fast forward to today, and as special advisor to Australia’s National COVID-19 Coordination Commission, I’m witnessing first-hand the need for governments to collaborate with business leaders to advance the recovery from today’s pandemic. The pandemic has brought a short runway item right to our doorstep, and is giving us the opportunity to rethink and remake our global institutions, by drawing upon best practices around global responses. As institutions get rebuilt globally, we need to take appropriate action and care to enable a just transition. Putting in place long-term fiscal policies that stand the test of time will require governments and the private sector to work together like never before, embracing inputs from all sectors of society. We must be thinking holistically and cross-sectorally.

If you can, please add your voice to the 10th Annual Summit. To get involved, please email kevin.wenzel@concordia.net.

Regards,
Andrew
