Joined the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) at the Inter-American Development Bank in 2000, where he has worked on investments related to microfinance as well as SME financing. He currently heads the MIF’s Access to Finance Unit, overseeing a loan and equity portfolio related to microfinance, venture capital, early-stage equity, small business financing, and financial services for low-income people. He serves on the boards of directors of several financial institutions and investment funds operating in Latin America and the Caribbean. Earlier in his career he worked as an investment executive for the Corporación Andina de Fomento, (CAF) in Caracas. In his home country, Costa Rica, he was vice dean of general studies at Universidad Autónoma de Centro América (UACA) and also worked for a brokerage house structuring debt-equity swaps. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Colorado State University, an MBA from the University of Dallas, and a bachelor’s degree from UACA. Mr. Miller has authored numerous publications on development finance topics.
