Few people in politics know swing voters better than Stephanie Murphy. She shocked the political establishment in 2016 by upsetting a 24-year Republican incumbent with a four-month campaign in one of the nation’s top swing districts. An immigrant and refugee who escaped communism, she is the first Vietnamese-American woman to serve in Congress and is a former national security specialist at the Department of Defense.
In Congress from 2017 to 2023, Stephanie represented a swing district that was one of only eight districts in America the Cook Political Report rated as having a zero partisan tilt.
She was also the leader of the pragmatic Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, a chief deputy whip responsible for negotiating on behalf of moderate Democrats, and was consistently ranked as one of the most effective and bipartisan Members of Congress.
