Ambassador Puneet Talwar has served as the United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco following his unanimous confirmation by the United States Senate in 2022. Throughout much of his career, Ambassador Talwar has held senior foreign policy and national security positions in the State Department, White House, and the Senate. He has served as Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director at the National Security Council, and Senior Professional Staff Member at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Ambassador Talwar’s public service also includes key roles in the U.S. House of Representatives and the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff. Outside of government, he has been a Senior Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute and a scholar at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center. He also served as a counselor to Inter Mediate, an NGO focused on conflict resolution. In the private sector, he has worked with international investment, private equity, and strategic advisory firms. He has published articles in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and The National Interest.
Ambassador Talwar is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He earned his B.S. Degree in Engineering from Cornell University and his M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University. He is a native of Washington, DC. where he lived prior to his posting to Rabat. He is married and has two sons.
