Sughra Hussainy is a skilled artist specializing in miniature painting, calligraphy, and
illumination. She began her artistic journey at the Turquoise Mountain Institute, where
she trained in traditional techniques and developed a deep commitment to preserving
cultural heritage.
Her work gained international recognition with the exhibition “Turquoise Mountain:
Artists Transforming Afghanistan” at the Smithsonian’s Freer Sackler Gallery in 2016.
She later earned an MFA in Community Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art
(MICA), where she continued to refine her practice and engage with diverse
communities.
Through her art, Sughra explores themes of identity, memory, and resilience, combining
meticulous craftsmanship with storytelling. Her work bridges traditions and
contemporary narratives, inviting viewers to connect with shared human experiences
