Passionate about shaping the 5Ds of the energy future (Decentralization, Decarbonization, Disruption, Democratization, and Digitization), he has dedicated his career to building innovative energy solutions for the Global South.
At SOLshare, he pioneered the world’s first peer-to-peer solar energy exchange, recognized by the World Economic Forum in 2018. Under his leadership, the company has raised $7.8 million in growth capital and received international accolades including the Zayed Sustainability Prize (2022), Earthshot Prize Finalist (2021), and World’s Best Energy Startup (Free Electrons, 2018). Most recently, Sebastian is driving SOLshare’s transformation of Bangladesh’s e-mobility sector through the Rickshaw Virtual Power Plant (R-VPP), a groundbreaking initiative turning millions of electric three-wheelers into a decentralized energy network.
Sebastian holds a PhD from Aalborg University and TU Berlin on energy poverty and innovation in Bangladesh and Peru, with widely cited publications on decentralized electrification. He also serves as Professor at BRAC Business School, and his work has earned global recognition including WEF Tech Pioneer (2018), Ashoka Fellow (2018), and UBS Global Visionary (2019).
