Currently the Director for Gender Equality at UNESCO, she was the pioneer in making gender equality a global priority at UNESCO in 2007. She is a senior executive in international development with over 25 years of field experience in over 30 countries in Asia-Pacific, North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, Europe, and North America. 

She holds post-graduate degrees from Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School and graduate degrees from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium; Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and Political Science Department at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
