Matthew is an Associate Partner at Dalberg Advisors based in Johannesburg. His work focuses on Southern, East, and West Africa and covers various aspects of economic growth and development, including impact investing, inclusive business and shared value, youth employment, and MSME development. His work spans a range of public and private sector clients both within and outside sub-Saharan Africa, and includes sectors such as financial services, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy.
In the MSME support space, recent projects include work with a global foundation and partner bank in East Africa to design and implement a credit guarantee to expand MSME lending, evaluation of the efficacy of two years of business development services in South Africa, and assessing the viability of creating a micro-enterprise financing and support facility in Johannesburg. In the impact investing space, recent projects include a landscape of the impact investing ecosystem in West Africa and various engagements with USAID’s Africa Private Capital Group focused on identifying and overcoming private equity and institutional investor barriers to investment in sub-Saharan Africa.
Matthew holds two master’s degrees, one in Environmental Policy from the University of Oxford and one in Applied Economics from the University of Cape Town.
