Mary, a South Sudanese refugee, is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Co-Founder of Elimisha Kakuma, a non-profit dedicated to providing access to higher education opportunities for high school graduates living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya . After fleeing her war-torn country as a child, she found security and hope in attending school in Kakuma Refugee Camp. She has since become a teacher of young refugees in her community, and sees education as an essential tool for rebuilding lives and empowering a generation of girls who are too often denied entrance into the classroom. Mary recently graduated from St. Olaf College in the United States with a degree in Theatre and International Relations. She is currently focused on expanding the work of Elimisha Kakuma to ensure university access to as many refugee students as possible.
