María Lopez is one of the youngest sustainability leaders in the region and one of the pioneers of sustainability in media in Colombia. Amongst her major achievements is the creation of the Semana Foundation, which has focused its work in the eradication of extreme poverty in those places most affected by armed conflict through a multidimensional approach. Her work in sustainability has focused in transforming Publicaciones Semana, one of the most influential media conglomerates in the country, into a Media Company that has sustainability at its strategic core. She is the founder and director of Semana Sostenible, a leading quarterly magazine focused on sustainable development. In addition, she serves on the board member of several social and environmental organizations. María is a lawyer from Universidad de Los Andes and holds an Environmental Management Masters Degree from the Universidad de los Andes, in addition to a post-graduate degree in Human Rights from American University. She is a mother of two, an undercover activist, and a philanthropist.
