H.E. María Juliana Ruiz Sandoval

Born May 23, 1978 in Bogotá, Colombia. Daughter of Luis Fernando Ruiz and Gloria Sandoval.

She has been married with the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque Marquez, for 15 years. They have three children: Luciana, Matías, and Eloísa.

She graduated from Marymount School and attended Javeriana University where she received the degree of lawyer. 

She studied at Institut Catholique, in Paris, and then went to American University, where she obtained a Master of Law with an emphasis in International Business.

After an internship in the Organization of American States, in Washington, Mrs. Ruiz worked there for more than 10 years. She returned to Colombia and joined the Shaio Clinic, one of the most renowned heart clinics in the country and the region, as General Secretary. 

Mrs. Ruiz resigned to this position to assume her task as First Lady.

As First Lady, Mrs. Ruiz wants to focus on these priority subjects: nutrition in early childhood, young people transforming reality through social innovation, culture as driver of development, and volunteering.
