Maeve E. McDermott, BS (UW-Madison), MPhil (Cantab), JD (VLS), is a U.S. attorney working at the intersection of environmental law, climate policy, and sustainable development. She currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice programme at the University of Cambridge and as Legal Fellow with the International Lawyers Project’s Environment and Sustainable Development programme. Maeve managed the Climate Law and Governance Initiative’s programming during three UNFCCC Conferences of the Parties – COP27, COP28, and COP29 – and contributed to environmental litigation and regulatory research at Williamson Law + Policy in Washington, D.C. She was also a fellow in the inaugural cohort of the Carbon Removal Justice Fellowship and has advanced environmental justice initiatives through her work with Vermont Law and Graduate School’s Environmental Justice Clinic and a legal internship at the World Bank. Her work reflects a deep commitment to using the law to advance climate justice and support sustainable development worldwide.
