Luigi Di Maio is the European Union Special Representative for the Gulf region, appointed in June 2023. He previously served as Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2022 and held the presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in 2022. From 2018 to 2019, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Labour, and Social Policies. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. He has chaired numerous international forums, including G20 ministerial meetings and the Mediterranean Dialogue Conferences.
