John M. Danielson is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Education Management Corporation. He is an accomplished, internationally-respected executive in the public and private education sector. Early in his 25-year career, Mr. Danielson came to believe that the private sector, along with the public sector, has an important role to play in the creation of improved education systems.

Mr. Danielson was a co-founder of the Chartwell Education Group LLC (2005-2009), an international education-consulting firm. Since June 2009, Mr. Danielson served as Chairman and Managing Director of Chartwell Hamilton Group LLC, the restructured international consulting platform of Chartwell Education. From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Danielson was Chief of Staff at the United States Department of Education, where he earned a reputation for his ability to adapt innovative business strategies and tactics to resolve the issues faced by the public education sector. From 2010 to 2013, at the appointment of current United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Mr. Danielson served as a peer reviewer in all four of the landmark Race to the Top state and district competitions. Mr. Danielson serves as a board member of Declara (Palo Alto), Magnus Gyan (New York), Vatterott Educational Centers (St. Louis), The University of the Potomac (Washington), and as a Senior Advisor to American Prison Data Systems (New York), and Speakaboos (New York).
