Ilze Viņķele graduated Riga Stradins University with master’s degree in Public Health in 2009; in 2017 she obtained a master’s degree in Health Management from Riga Stradins University and School of Business, Arts and Technology. She studied also at the McCain Institute for International Leadership, Arizona State University (2017 -2018). Since 2000 Ilze Viņķele has taken different positions in the public administration and parliamentary bodies. In 2011 she was elected in Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) with a following appointment to the post of Minister of Welfare (2011-2014). From 2014 to 2017 as Member of the Saeima she was a Chairperson of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Commission. Since 23 January 2019 Ilze Viņķele is Minister of Health of Latvia.
