Mariya Voyvodova is a Deputy Mayor for the City of Gothenburg, representing the Social Democratic Party. As a councillor and member of the City Executive Board, Mariya has responsibility for cultural affairs, human rights and youth issues. She also chairs the City’s Cultural Committe as well as the local LGBT council – the first council of its kind at the local level in Sweden.
Mariya was born and raised in Bulgaria and has studied political science at the University of Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
