Françoise Vanni joined the Global Fund in 2018 and now heads the External Relations and Communications Division. The division includes four departments: Communications, Donor Relations, Political and Civil Society Advocacy, and Private Sector Engagement. In this role, Vanni led the successful Sixth Replenishment campaign, securing US$14.02 billion in pledges in 2019. This was followed by the Seventh Replenishment campaign in 2022, which raised US$15.7 billion for the Global Fund’s three-year funding cycle. Vanni also represents the organization at international fora and conferences such as the G7, G20 and UN highlevel meetings. Vanni has more than 30 years of leadership experience in resource mobilization and advocacy, and extensive field experience in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Early in her career, Vanni served as country representative in Angola and in Cuba for Médecins du Monde. For eight years, she served as executive director of a nongovernmental organization in France called Agir Ici, which she transformed into Oxfam France. In Mexico, Vanni served as communications chief for UNICEF before serving Oxfam GB as a regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean. Later she was Oxfam’s campaigns and policy director based in the United Kingdom. Before joining the Global Fund, Vanni was director of external relations and communications for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Vanni earned a master’s degree in international cooperation, development and humanitarian affairs at the Sorbonne University and completed an advanced management and leadership course at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
