Hendry Sawe, M.D., Masters of Medicine (Mmed), MBA, Ph.D., joined Abbott Fund Tanzania in 2021 and today serves as Executive Director, with responsibility for managing Abbott Fund’s philanthropic engagement in Tanzania.
Hendry is one of the pioneers in the establishment of Emergency Medicine in Tanzania. He was part of the first class of Emergency Medicine Residents who graduated in 2013 at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
Dr. Sawe has since served as Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, head of the Emergency Medicine program and Director of Planning and Investment for MUHAS. He also was one of the founders and the first President of the Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania. Hendry has served as a consultant on emergency care with the World Health Organization (WHO) and as a member of various national and international professional societies that work to advance emergency care and improve health in low-resource settings.
