Dr. Hazel Laws

Hazel Laws is the Chief Medical Officer of the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis since September 2016. In this capacity she serves as the International Health Regulations (IHR) National FocalPoint and chairperson for the Health Emergency Operating Center’s(HEOC) Committee which is the team leading the Federation’s COVID-19 Preparedness & Response Program. She was formerly chairperson of the St. Kitts & Nevis National Commission on Cannabis and she spearheaded the submission of the final report in January 2019. Hazel also provided leadership to the Ministry of Health’s Zika Outbreak Control team from 2016 to 2017.

From 2006 to 2016 she served as lecturer at both the bachelor’s degree level and master’s level, in the Department of Community Health & Psychiatry, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mona Campus, University of the West Indies. Her publication record reflects significant contribution to the field of aging and care of older adults in the Caribbean Region. Hazel earned her MBBS Degree and Master of Public Health Degree from the University of the West Indies.
