Deborah Sawaf is a visionary at the intersection of beauty, human connection, and purposeful
design, an international designer, educator, and thought leader whose life’s work is rooted in a
single, profound conviction: that emotional intelligence is the foundation of a flourishing world.
Born in Bombay and shaped by the storied fashion capitals of Italy and Los Angeles, Sawaf
carries a distinctly global soul. Her early career placed her alongside some of fashion’s most
luminous icons, John Galliano, Valentino, and Roberto Cavalli, where she refined not only her
creative eye, but her understanding of how beauty, story, and culture interweave to move people
deeply. Throughout those years, her talent earned her repeated recognition, including multiple
nominations and awards for Designer of the Year, a testament to the singular voice she had
cultivated within one of the world’s most competitive industries.
As the founder of the luxury brand Thale Blanc, Sawaf pushed the boundaries of design while
exploring fashion as a vessel for cultural narrative and meaning. The brand earned international
recognition, becoming the first sustainable luxury brand acknowledged by the United Nations, a
testament to her belief that elegance and ethical responsibility are not in opposition, but in
harmony.
A pivotal turning point arrived in 2022, during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Cleveland and
Super Bowl Weekend in Los Angeles. These experiences crystallized what had long been taking
shape within her: a calling to address the quiet crisis of emotional wellbeing at a societal scale.
From that inflection point, Sawaf channeled her formidable creative and intellectual energy into
founding something entirely new, The Power of Words, a movement redefining how the world
understands and engages with mental health. At its heart is the Band-Bond InitiativeTM, a
groundbreaking curriculum and program designed to transform the way individuals, institutions,
and communities navigate emotional life. The initiative resonated far beyond its origins: it was
nominated twice as a finalist for both the United Nations Sustainable Awards and the Cámara de
la Moda, recognitions that affirmed its global relevance and its power to change lives.
The result is also the world’s first interactive Emotional Intelligence program of its kind, a
values-based initiative as simple as it is universal, as scalable as it is deeply human. Designed to
span the full arc of human development, the program begins in early childhood, where emotional
awareness is kindled through storytelling and the symbolic language of animal archetypes. As
individuals grow, the methodology evolves, expanding into structured frameworks for schools,
professionals, clinicians, and corporate leaders alike. At its heart, the program instills a lifelong
capability: the emotional fluency that complements intellectual achievement and defines
balanced, compassionate leadership.

Sawaf’s commitment to humanity has not gone unnoticed beyond the stage of ideas. She was
honored with the True Altruist Award by Angeleno Magazine, a distinction reserved for those
whose philanthropic vision drives measurable, meaningful change in the world around them, a
reflection of the integrity and generosity that animate everything she does.
Sawaf has brought this vision to some of the world’s most influential stages. She has presented at
the WISH7 Summit in collaboration with the World Health Organization, participated in a panel
at the G20 in India on the global mental health crisis alongside FQ, and collaborated with Gary
Vaynerchuk at the Cannes Lions Media Festival in 2023. Her interdisciplinary approach,
weaving together fashion, music, and creative expression, has been showcased at the
International Indian Film Awards at the Formula 1 Stadium in Abu Dhabi (IIFA), the landmark
TEFFA Conference, and through an ongoing partnership with Authenica Conferences.
Recognizing the importance of reaching the next generation on their own terrain, she has also
established a presence on Roblox, bringing immersive emotional learning into the digital world
young people inhabit.
Her educational reach continues to expand. Sawaf is currently in strategic dialogue with leading
universities across the United States and has forged international partnerships, including with
MIT World Peace University in India. Her Emotional Intelligence program has been formally
accredited by the State Bar of California, a landmark recognition of its rigor and real-world
relevance. In parallel, she advises organizations and institutions on leadership development,
emotional intelligence frameworks, and team-building strategies designed for the evolving
demands of a global workplace.
In recognition of her growing influence at the convergence of innovation, leadership, and human
flourishing, Sawaf was appointed Chair of the Coordination Commission at the World
Technology Summit India 2025.
Through every thread of her work, from the runway to the classroom, from global summits to the
digital frontier, Deborah Sawaf champions a world in which emotional intelligence is not a soft
skill, but a cornerstone: of leadership, of education, and of our shared humanity.
