Daniel Gonzales is Program Officer at the International Migration Initiative (IMI) at Open Society Foundations. He leads IMI’s work mobilizing investment and innovation from the business community, and promoting private sponsorship of refugees around the world. He also advises IMI on its work in the Americas.
He was formerly Program Director at Fundación Avina, where he led the foundation’s international work and its migration program. He created the migration program in 2010, initially focusing on North and Central America; it now includes South America as well. Daniel was one of the founders of the Central America and Mexico Migration Alliance (CAMMINA), a funder collaborative that mobilized $15 million US to the region since its creation in 2011. Daniel also led Avina’s institutional Business and Technology strategy, which seeks to combine state-of-the-art technology with high-impact business models.
Daniel has spent the last 18 years developing public-private partnerships for sustainable development in over 25 countries. He served on the board of directors of several organizations, including impact investment funds, high-tech companies, and social enterprises. He is the Chair of Instiglio and a Director at Colombianitos.
Daniel was a professor of corporate social responsibility at the Universidad de los Andes Business School in Colombia. He holds a Global Executive MBA from Georgetown University and the ESADE Business School, as well as a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes.
