Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang is an accomplished econometrics researcher, humanitarian, and public speaker, with a passion for advancing the intersection of finance and public policy. In 2023, she received the prestigious Diana Legacy Award, personally recognized by Prince William, for her efforts to improve the social mobility of Indonesia’s undocumented migrant children living on Bantar Gebang – Southeast Asia’s largest landfill site. Chiara’s academic contributions include co-authoring an econometrics research paper on internal migration with a senior researcher at Harvard Law School and earning accolades from the John Locke Institute (Oxford and Princeton) for her economics essay on the global housing market crisis. At just 18, Chiara has already gained recognition as a notable public speaker, delivering a TedxTalk in 2022, being a guest speaker at the CAS Trips 2022 workshop across Malaysia and Singapore, and addressing the Jakarta Scholars Symposium in 2023, where she spoke on key socioeconomic challenges facing Southeast Asia. Currently a student at Columbia University, Chiara is pursuing a B.A. in Economics and Political Science while continuing her advocacy work and research in socioeconomics, finance, and public policy.
