Mr. Mathiasen has over 25 years of experience in drug control and crime prevention. He has worked at the headquarters of UNODC in Vienna and UNODC representative offices in positions of progressive responsibility.

He began his career at the United Nations as a Junior Professional Officer in Brazil (1991), and later served as Deputy Director for the Baltics (1994-1997); Deputy Representative in Brazil (1997-2000); UNODC Program Management Officer (2000-2003); Chief of Cabinet of the Director General of UNOV and UNODC Executive Director (2004-2009) and Regional Representative for Brazil and the Southern Cone (2009-2012).

From September 2012 assumed functions as Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Colombia.

He holds a Masters in Political Science and Economics from the University of Copenhagen and a specialization in Development Economics from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
