Dr. Biraj Karmacharya is the Administrative Director for Dhulikhel Hospital one of the Nepal’s leading teaching hospitals and health systems serving more than 3 million people and also serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Kathmandu School of Medical Sciences. An internationally recognized leader in public health, Dr. Karmacharya spent more than 15 years building some of the most innovative and impactful community-based health programs focused on bringing care to the doorsteps of people in rural Nepal. He founded the Department of Community Programs at Dhulikhel Hospital where he served as the Director until taking on his current roles. As an educator and researcher, he has lead NIH funded studies focused on translating evidence into actionable policy and practice to address heart disease and other chronic diseases in some of the most challenging settings in the world. He received his MBBS from Kathmandu University of School of Medical Sciences, and has a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. Dr. Karmacharya also serves as the co-director for AMPATH Nepal, a partnership between Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University, Mount Sinai, and a global consortium of academic institutions dedicated to expanding access to high quality healthcare for all.
