Besem Obenson is the coordinator of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Antioquia and Chocó. Before arriving in Colombia in 2017, Besem has worked for more than 10 years in various countries in Latin America on the subject of refugees, internally displaced persons and other populations in need of international protection. Besem has experience working with vulnerable populations in his state of California in the USA where he also obtained two master’s degrees in Public Health and business administration.
