Ben White – VC4Africa Founder – Netherlands, United States
Ben has been venturing in the African technology and media space since 2003, launching AfricaNews.com as one of the first pan-African news websites. He has done ethnographic research on the emergence of software cultures in Kampala, Uganda, initiated the ICT Entrepreneurship program at Hivos, and later taught classes in digital entrepreneurship at the University of Amsterdam. An angel investor and partner at Sanaga Ventures, Ben is also the cofounder of AfriLabs, a pan-African network of innovation hubs, and is on the board of ActivSpaces, a Cameroon based incubator. Ben is a cofounder of the African Business Angel Network (ABAN) and in 2007 he founded Venture Capital for Africa (VC4A), an online platform and networking organization connecting the fast growing African startup community.
