Amy Hopfinger biography Chief Business & Strategy Officer – FIFA World Cup 2026™ Amy Hopfinger has been a critical driver behind some of the world’s biggest and most successful global events, a leader for women in sports, and instrumental in the groundbreaking growth of soccer in the United States. Hopfinger currently serves as the Chief Strategy & Planning Officer for FIFA World Cup 2026, the North American subsidiary of FIFA charged with planning and overseeing the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and FIFA World Cup 2026. She leads the strategy, commercial and business areas and multiple key cross-organization functions as well as serving as the main point of contact for host cities. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is projected to be the largest sporting event in history. Across the United States alone, the tournament is expected to generate more than $47 billion in economic impact. Prior to joining FIFA in 2022, Hopfinger spent 18 years at the United States Soccer Federation, most recently as Vice President of Events and a Special Advisor to FIFA for the host city bidding process as well as the Special Advisor to the United Bid’s winning campaign to secure the 2026 FIFA World Cup for United Bid’s United States, Canada & Mexico. Hopfinger has set the standard for American soccer events. During her time leading Events at U.S. Soccer, Amy was responsible for helping professionalize and strategically and commercially build and execute events including 20 to 30 senior National Teams matches a year, across the United States and occasionally the world. She also served as the operational head of Copa America Centenario in 2016, delivering a 32-match event across 10 markets which drew nearly 1.5 million fans, 100 million U.S. viewers and $190 million in revenue – making it the most successful and highest-attended Copa America in the tournament’s century-old history and the second highest-attended soccer tournament played in the United States – behind only the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Hopfinger is a leader for women in sports, and an amplifier for women’s sports. She was a founding architect and lead for U.S. Soccer’s SheBelieves movement, one of American sports’ premier platforms to inspire and empower girls and young women, counting more than a dozen programs around developing “Careers,” “Confidence” and “Community.”
