Alvise Maria Casellati is an acclaimed Italian conductor recognized for his work in opera and symphonic repertoire. A graduate of the University of Padua (Law), Columbia University (LL.M.), and Juilliard (Conducting), he transitioned from a successful legal career in New York to pursue his lifelong passion for music.
He made his Italian conducting debut at Teatro La Fenice in 2011 and later became Resident Conductor at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, where he conducted Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore.
Casellati is the Founder and Music Director of Opera Italiana is in the Air, a project bringing free, open-air opera concerts to public spaces to make the art form more accessible and inclusive. Known for his expressive style and commitment to audience engagement, he continues to champion Italian opera worldwide. In may 2025 he became the Artistic Director of Teatro Massimo in Palermo, one of the most prestigious opera and dance theaters in Italy and the world.
