Keynote Remarks: John Jovanovic, Founder and CEO, Nova Fleet | Mainstage

Speaker:
John Jovanovic, Founder and CEO, Nova Fleet; Concordia Senior Advisor

The climate crisis can’t wait. For John Jovanovic, Founder & CEO of Nova Fleet, this will take significant investment into decarbonization and environmental sustainability. Jovanovic noted that we need to input $16 trillion into decarbonizing by the end of the decade.

There are significant challenges, Jovanovic explained. Socio-economic issues on an individual level may hinder public support. He highlighted the 2018 Yellow Vest fuel tax protests in France as an example. Further, he noted the resource challenges involved in electrification. Electric cars, for example, are highly reliant on rare earth minerals and other scarce raw materials. Finally, Jovanovic highlighted challenges in research and development of near-term technologies. Partnerships with industry are crucial, especially in hard-to-decarbonize industries where innovation will change the game.

It’s time to bring industry in from the cold, and into the fold.

John Jovanovic

Key takeaways & next steps:

  • To deal expeditiously with the climate crisis, governments should seek to partner with the private sector, especially in those industries where decarbonization is challenging. Innovation will be the key to success.
