Keynote Remarks by Vicky Bailey | Mainstage

Speaker:
Vicky Bailey, Executive Chair, United States Energy Association

The United States Energy Association plays a role in the energy landscape by convening stakeholders to broaden the sector and expand access. Executive Chair Vicky Bailey explained that the association is at the nexus between energy and sustainability. One goal for the organization is to lift populations out of energy poverty and improve access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

Each of us were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, unrest, and economic downturn. The energy sector saw a dramatic alteration in demand for power and technology. Like other industries, Bailey commented, it turned to virtual tools to keep its work ongoing. Achieving decarbonization and lifting millions out of poverty will require all types of energy. Investment will help accelerate the race to zero emissions and develop new tools for carbon capture, utilization, and storage. Environmental sustainability is about resilience of life, health, families and neighborhoods. We will never go back to our previous world but pathways to a brighter future may emerge from our shared experience of the pandemic.

We’re all inextricably linked to all parts of the world. Energy is the lifeblood of all economies, including the U.S. The time has never been more critical to spur economic growth. Energy access is key to those aspirations across the planet.
